Dr Hector Fenech, Director of Future Satellite Systems, Eutelsat

Dr Hector Fenech was born in Malta. He received a B.Sc (Eng) from the University of Malta in 1978, M.S. degrees in electronic engineering from the Phillips International Institute of Technological Studies, Eindhoven, the Netherlands, in 1983 and a Ph.D. degree in satellite communications from the University of Bradford, UK in 1987.
 
He joined Eutelsat in 1989 where he is currently the Director of the Future Satellite Systems Group at Eutelsat. He is responsible for the system analysis, mission definition and negotiations with industry of the communication mission requirements of over 30 satellites ordered by Eutelsat including the S-band payload on W2A, the Ka-band HTS mission on KA-SAT, the first of its generation and Eutelsat Quantum, the first commercial software defined Ku-band mission. Over the last 34 years, he has been involved in various facets of satellite communications and he has more than 70 publications and 10 patents.
 
He is an Associate Fellow of the AIAA (American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics, Fellow of the IEEE (Institute of Electrical and Electronic Engineers) and Fellow of the IET (Institution of Engineering and Technology).
 
In 2016, he has been a first year recipient of the Outstanding Alumni Achievement Award of the University of Malta. He has also been appointed as Affiliated Professor of the same university.
